Typograph.Her Interview
An interview with the lovely Nicole @Typographher about my background, inspiration and of course Fresh Lemon Print.
Excerpt:
I first (electronically) met Phil when he purchased his Farley and we shared notes on machines… I have been a fan of his work ever since, so this feature is really long overdue I reached out to learn more about his journey and print practice.
Which aspects of letterpress caught your attention initially and what do you enjoy most about it today as a medium?
I love the tactility of the vintage letters, looking at their shape and form, and wondering how they could work in a design. I’m intrigued by the way each print is unique, caused by the imperfections in the type impressions and ink, creating wonderful textures and giving each print a 3-dimensional feel.
What do you think characterizes your work (or approach) to letterpress printing?
I think my bold use of typography together with rough ‘bad printed’ textures is my style... ‘Grungy' probably sums up my current work well.
Who influences your work?
I have always admired the more experimental printers and typographers like Alan Kitching, Jack Stauffacher and David Carson.
